🎟️ Types of Barcelona Transport Tickets Explained

Barcelona offers a few different ticket types depending on how often you plan to use public transport.
The Hola BCN travel card is a popular choice for tourists. It gives you unlimited metro, bus, and tram rides for 2 to 5 days, and includes airport transfers.
It’s the easiest option if you’re planning lots of sightseeing. But if you walk between sights, other options might be cheaper.
The T-casual is a 10-trip ticket. It’s not unlimited, but it’s flexible and usually works well for light or medium use over several days.
The ticket is magnetic and rechargeable, so don’t throw it away after you’ve used your 10 rides.
If you’re only taking a few trips, Single Tickets are simple but not very cost-effective.
Each ride costs more than double compared to the T-casual rides. Plus, you can’t transfer between different transport types with a single fare.
There are also T-usual and T-familiar passes, but these are better suited for residents or longer stays. For most travelers, the best value for money is the Hola BCN and T-casual tickets.
🚍 Zones and Travel Options in Barcelona

Barcelona’s public transport system is split into fare zones.
You’ll most probably only need Zone 1. This covers the entire city, including major sights like Sagrada Família, Park Güell, the Gothic Quarter, and even the airport.
It also includes nearby towns like Castelldefels, Badalona, and Montgat.
If you’re staying in central Barcelona, all your travel will stay within this zone.
You’ll need Zone 2 and beyond if you want to explore further beaches and Catalan towns inland. Such tickets are perfect for day trips from Barcelona by train.
When using the Barcelona Transport Fare calculator, choose the zone based on where you’ll sleep and explore. If everything is in central Barcelona, Zone 1 is the right pick.
💡 Tip: For airport transfers, the Hola BCN pass covers the airport. T-casual and other regular zone-based tickets also work for the airport if you’re using the bus or the train. For the metro, you’ll need the Airport ticket (€5.70 for a single ride). And a ride on the Aerobus is not part of any of the tickets.
